Nintendo is on fire lately.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is doing really well at the box office, getting closer to the 1 billion dollar mark in tickets. There are rumors abound about a Star Fox movie in the works with Illumination, after his appearance in the aforementioned movie. These are on top of the also rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.
Now, after a surprise Direct Wednesday, Nintendo has revealed they are also remaking Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
And it’s coming this year.
The game drops the ‘64’ from the title, and looks to be a total remake of the original game. The visuals have been greatly improved, bringing the beloved characters of Fox, Slippy, Peppy, and Falco to a more realistic quality. It seems to still be an on-rails game, with players able to control the craft to dodge and fire at enemies. Two-player functionality has been added for the Switch 2, allowing one player to pilot and another to man the guns. The Switch 2’s mouse feature is also a new addition.

Further additions include more cinematic scenes to flesh out the story, enhancing the narrative. In today’s online age, a battle mode has been added as well, allowing players to play on Team Wolf or Team Fox and battle it out with each other. The virtual avatars of GameChat will also feature facial reading technology, so players’ expressions will be reflected in Fox and other characters’ movements.
Star Fox releases June 25th on the Switch 2.
