With Season 2 of The Bad Batch now behind us and Season 3 of The Mandalorian quickly winding down, it is time to take a look at what lies ahead for Star Wars in 2023 (besides the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in London).

While the limelight is very much on Ahsoka, which is rumored to premiere in the fall, one other live-action Star Wars show is set to premiere this year, Skeleton Crew. Only a few days ago, it was reported that Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (aka. the Daniels), who recently swept the Oscars with their Everything Everywhere All at Once, will direct at least one episode of the show. Now, a fellow A24 director, David Lowery may also be helming at least one episode.

A24 is a Manhattan-based independent film studio producing and distributing movies that are both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Besides Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ex Machina (2014), Lady Bird (2017), and Eight Grade (2018) are among their best-known movies. A24 frequently works with high-profile directors like Sofia Coppola, Alex Garland, or Barry Jenkins.

While Skeleton Crew is Lowery's first encounter with the galaxy far, far away, it is not his first project for Disney. Back in 2016 he directed Pete's Dragon, the live-action remake of Disney's animated movie from 1977, and his most recent collaboration with the mouse-house is Peter Pan & Wendy, a live-action fantasy film, based on the animated classic from 1953, which will premiere on Disney+ at the end of April.

Skeleton Crew was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2022. Before that, it was rumored that a project called Grammar Rodeo, a reference to a Simpsons episode, was in the works at Lucasfilm.

Though filming already wrapped back in January, very little is known about the show. The official synopsis from Lucasfilm reads:

Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home.”

Taking place post-Return of the Jedi in the same timeframe as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew was created by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), who also serves as the executive producer, and written by Chris Ford (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni serve as further executive producers.

Besides Jude Law, no other cast members have been revealed so far.
