It’s been nearly two weeks since Nintendo showed off the successor to one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time, and the following day Trump announced his tariff war, and Nintendo rescinded it’s pre-order launch date for the U.S. and Canada.

Those dates were originally supposed to be April 9, but with that date come and gone, there’s been no word on the replacement date.

Now, reportedly, reliable industry leaker Billbil-kun from Deal Labs claims that word has come to them from Canadian retailers that pre-orders will go live on April 23. Then, not long after that, they revealed that they had seen information that U.S. retailers had two possible dates for their pre-order launch. Some indicate April 21, others April 30. Controllers and accessories look to be up for pre-order on April 30, no matter what.

Regardless of whether this is true, those dates, like the original, are likely subject to change with the volatile nature of the global economy as Trump’s tariff tantrum continues to wreak havoc. Kotaku speculates that the April 30 date is more likely, given the hardware pre-order date seems standard.

What isn’t indicated here, though, is whether or not the price will remain the same or increase. Sony and Xbox have already increased the prices of the Xbox Series and Playstation 5 as a result of the tariff nonsense. It’s likely the Switch 2 could see an increase, however, some industry analysts have surmised that tariffs may have already been baked into the price. This could be why it seems a little high to begin with, which has led to some backlash from fans about the steep price of the new system that does not even include an OLED screen like the predecessor upgrade and has a lower battery life than the predecessor. Games are also said to be rather steep now as well, approaching $90 in some instances.

Nintendo has said that it’s launch date for the system of June 5 remains the same.
