Spider-Man: Brand New Dayis the hero of the 2026 summer box office. Having smashed through records for preview earnings and the biggest opening day box office, the film has now earned $927 million in the global box office, with $355 million of that sum from North American theaters. Avengers: Endgame still holds the record for biggest domestic box office debut at $357 million, but the films are neck and neck. Brand New Day still has a chance to claim that record.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was elated. He said, “This is a truly phenomenal opening, and we are grateful to audiences for coming out and experiencing our film the way it was meant to be seen. This debut reflects the enduring power of Marvel’s characters, and the connection they continue to have with fans around the world.” While Brand New Day relied on prior threads from No Way Home, it managed to catch up new viewers and become a self-contained film. That fresh start may have been the key to overcoming superhero fatigue.

Sony Motion Pictures Group Chair Tom Rothman shared his thoughts on the opening, “This weekend’s historic worldwide results reminds me of George Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life: ‘Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.’” He continued, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day is fundamentally a movie about friendship, about the balm of connection in all of our lives, and that is resonant to audiences of all ages and all around the world. In troubled times, Sony is very proud to have united the world in celebrating a film about hope.” Brand New Day is now in theaters, and Tom Holland’s previous MCU outings are on Disney+.
