In a surprise announcement confirming pre-existing rumors, CD PROJEKT RED has revealed they are working on a third DLC expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

An incredibly lauded and widely enjoyed game, which helped get the more mixed-reception TV show made as a result of the game’s popularity, alongside enjoyment and growing awareness of the novels the games are based on, this new DLC is entitled Songs of the Past. Currently set to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, CDPR are developing the game alongside the game studio Fool’s Theory, which features many people who worked on The Witcher 3 on its team.

Songs of the Past “will return players to the role of legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia for a brand new adventure.” However, speculation about the project posit that the DLC will serve as something of a prequel or bridge story into The Witcher 4, where players will be taking on the role of Ciri. A major character in The Witcher 3, a time jump from the end of that game to this DLC is not out of the question to show Ciri training further, or approaching the sort of character we’ll be seeing in the upcoming game. At the same time, this might be more about a final farewell to Geralt, not in the sense that he’ll die, but that he’ll cease to be the main playable character in the next game in the franchise. With a title like Songs of the Past, revisiting past adventures, certain characters or more as a culmination of his many stories, would make a great deal of sense, especially as CDPR and Fool’s Theory are remaking some of those old adventures.

CD PROJEKT RED promises more details about Songs of the Past will be released later this summer in 2026, so we’ll have to keep our swords sharp and ready for that upcoming ambush of news.
