Cal Kestis will return. No, not in Avengers: Doomsday, but probably in other venues beyond his role as the protagonist in the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi video game series.

During a recent discussion about the theme park attractions at Disneyland, a representative from Lucasfilm confirmed that the company has plans for the survivour of the Jedi purge:

"Never say never. We've got his lightsaber in the park. We've got more Cal stories coming."

The character of Cal Kestis first appeared in Respawan’s 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its 2023 sequel Survivor, both games were a massive success both critically and commercially. So it is no wonder that the development of a third (and final) game began shortly after the release of Survivor. Currently, there is no information on when it will be released.

Aside from the video games (and comics based on Fallen Order), Kestis appeared in the tie-in novel Battle Scars by Sam Maggs (2023), in Mike Chen’s Brotherhood (2022), and in the non-canon animated LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy - Pieces of the Past.

Most recently, the red-haired Jedi was referenced in Marc Sumerak’s updated edition of Star Wars: Secrets of the Jedi: The Chronicles of Luke Skywalker. In the book, which is set after the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke acknowledges that Kestis survived the purge and fought against the Empire after the fall of the Republic, leaving it open whether he was even alive during the days of the New Republic.

This information, in addition to the comment from the Lucasfilm representative, provides a lot of opportunities for future appearances of Cal Kestis, be it in animated or even live-action form.

Cameron Monaghan, who provides not only his voice but also his likeness to Kestis, has confirmed that he is open to playing the Jedi in future releases, as long as his character serves a purpose:

"It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don't want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there. I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely."
