It appears that this may be the end for Animus, as new details emerge about the Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake. A report from French outlet Jeuxvideo claims that all modern-day gameplay from the original has been removed; in its place, they will be adding more content from Edward Kenway’s era, possibly including some extra content for Mary Read. Though the new content would be welcome, the removed modern-day story has had fans up in arms, with many hoping it's not true. They cite that the modern-day storyline connects heavily with Kenway’s pirate adventures, and that removing it removes a lot of the context.
The many people criticizing the decision can be found on a Reddit thread. These include havewelost6388, “Without the modern day storyline and ancient aliens sci-fi stuff, modern AC games are just Witcher 3 clones with stealth mechanics,” ZeroZelath, “The modern day stuff is part of how the franchise works so it should always be present in some form,” and kamugui, “The best of the series is the fact that was very clear that we were in a simulation!” Assassin's Creed: Black Flag will be continuing development, so hopefully this all gets cleared up. Until then, we will see you on our website.
