Things are fine, everything is great. Nothing to see here.

After the surprising, yet unsurprising, suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live by Disney last week, and the resulting culture war and internet debates, it’s being reported that Jimmy and his representatives are in talks with Disney about what a return could look like, if at all.

This is the result of a segment of Kimmel’s show following the assassination of far right provocateur Charlie Kirk. Kimmel’s comments, however, were seen by some to be divisive, despite pointedly stating that Conservatives were trying hard to label the assassin as not one of their own, and playing a clip of Trump being asked about Kirk’s death and with little remorse pivoting instead to talk about his ballroom expansion of the White House.

Neither Disney, nor Kimmel’s people, could be reached for comment, and according to reporting, there is no agreement yet, and there still couldn’t be. Kimmel is reportedly concerned about the effect this would have on the cast, crew, and vendors.

Many view this situation as a flashpoint for the incredibly aggressive and arguably unconstitutional moves the Trump administration has made and the direction of the country. It’s important to note that private organizations have the right to control who they employ. The concern here was the level of coercive and threatening language from President Trump and his FCC appointees. Brendan Carr, Trump’s FCC Chairman, has also made it no secret that this is part of the dangerous Project 2025, especially recently, with an X response agreeing that this is all part of the Christian Nationalist agenda of Project 2025.

This is just the latest in a growing list of encroachments by this administration on the press and free speech, especially following the audacious moves by Paramount to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after his remarks regarding the Trump administration. They used it as a guise for financial trimming, despite Colbert’s show being one of the most-watched late night shows on TV. It was ever further obvious what Paramount’s motive was when, not a week later, they signed a massive deal with the creators of South Park, who subsequently aired one of the most scathing rebukes of the Trump administration to date.
