'Borderlands 4' Shows Serious Performance Issues

The release of Borderlands 4 was long-awaited by fans. But excitement for the title has dulled somewhat thanks to less-than-adequate performance. Especially on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, where the issues worsen the longer the game is played.
Such is likely the result of a memory leak, where the game is not releasing unneeded memory back to the console’s RAM. Social media posts of players show the various issues that come from this, including reduced framerates and even crashes. Oddly, it seems the issues are more pronounced on the PS5 Pro.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has noted the issues players are experiencing, saying that patches are in the works to fix things. In the meantime, he says that the workaround to avoid the issue of tanking performance over time is to occasionally quit the game and restart the console in longer play sessions. Sound advice, as all memory will be released back to the RAM. But it’s a wonder such an issue wasn’t found before launch.
Revealed at The Game Awards in 2024, Borderlands 4 brings a new outing for the looter shooter series. Set on the planet Kairos, two factions disrupt the Vault Hunters from raiding the planet of its valuable loot. Borderlands 4 is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro.
