The first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday (2026) has been released, revealing exciting news. Shown during the previews before Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) in theaters, it revealed that Chris Evans is once again returning to the MCU, this time in a role related to Captain America! Evans’ name was not included in the cast list revealed in March 2025, so his inclusion comes as a pleasant surprise. There is a fan-made trailer created with AI that you may find; despite plot similarities to the leaked theatrical teaser, that is not what this is referring to.
According to Empire, the trailer opens with Steve riding towards the house he shares with Peggy, seen in Avengers: Endgame (2019). We see Steve holding his old hero suit and then holding a baby, presumably his child. Underscoring the trailer is the Avengers theme in a somber key. It ends with the words "Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” We do not know if this is the Steve Rogers of the main MCU timeline, if it is an alternate version, or if it's a shot providing his child and potential grandchildren with a backstory. Considering that multiversal travel is canon and will be occurring in the movie, the possibilities are extensive.

The outcome for Evans’ character in Endgame (2019) was a fairly closed, happy case, as he got to stay back in time with Peggy Carter and grow old with her. Evans had previously denied his return as Steve, though he has appeared in the MCU since, reprising his role as Human Torch in Deadpool and Wolverine (2024). Robert Downey Jr. will be returning as well, playing Doctor Doom from a different universe. Other cast members include Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Lewis Pullman. Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
