A game from 1990 is finding new life 35 years later. Sunsoft’s PC game City Hunter is being revived digitally for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series, and PC through Steam. Gamers in Europe will be able to snag physical copies for the PlayStation 5 and the Switch. While the original game was in Japanese, the re-release will include localizations in English, German, Italian, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean. The game will be released in standard and collector’s editions, with 500 copies per platform of a limited Deluxe edition available.

City Hunter is a 2D side-scrolling adventure where players take on the role of a professional “sweeper,” or someone who fights crime in the city. On the Steam page, the main character introduces themselves as Ryo Saeba. The character page describes the player’s role: “I take on all kinds of jobs from protecting beautiful women to assassinations. In other words, I’m a cleaner who gets rid of the scum of the city. That means I live a life constantly on the edge. My partner, Kaori, is the younger sister of my deceased best friend, but she never brings in any decent jobs. So what kind of work is waiting for me today?” The ’90s game revival will be released on March 26, 2026. Pre-orders are available now.
