Hollywood is as leaky as a faucet recently as the hours tick down toward the opening of San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where announcements and reveals for countless franchises and entertainment projects are expected. While likely not something to be confirmed or revealed at Comic Con itself, Deadline is still reporting on a rumor they’ve heard that Naomi Ackie is the top choice for the upcoming Clayface film’s female lead.
Much discussed in recent weeks as the DC film and TV engine gets moving in and around the release of Superman, Clayface will be a theatrically-released examination of the Batman villain of the same name. He’s been present since 1940 and, like many characters, has gone through countless iterations over the years, though this iteration has been noted to have significant horror movie elements in a stark tone departure from Superman.

Most fans best remember the version of Clayface seen in Batman: The Animated Series, who came back again and again across the show’s run and the expanded DC Animated Universe. But he has also been seen in other recent projects like Amazon’s animated Batman production, Batman: Caped Crusader. What exact role Ackie might play in the story, opposite actor Tom Rhys Harries, who has scored the role of the film’s main character, is currently unknown.
She’s held diverse parts in the past several years, from Whitney Houston in the biopic I Want to Dance With Somebody to Nasha Barridge, the main character’s love interest, in Mickey 17. It may be that she’ll play a love interest again, but for now, we’ll have to wait and keep our ears open for more news about this quickly assembling production.
