Deadline reported recently that fan-favorite villain, Clayface, will be played by Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines, The Gentlemen, and Suspicion). Rhys was shortlisted for consideration for the role alongside Jack O’Connell (28 Years Later), Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Leo Woodall (White Lotus), and George MacKay (1917).
DC Studio’s James Gunn shared the news via X (formerly Twitter), saying, “After a long and incredibly exhaustive search, we finally have our DCU Clayface in Tom Rhys Harries. Both Matt Reeves and I were just blown away by this guy, and can’t wait for you to see this film, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan.”
Clayface was originally brought to life by Bill Finger and Bob Kane in the June 1940 edition of Detective Comics #40 as a shapeshifting, sometimes villain/antagonist, sometimes ally to Batman. Initially, the character was an actor who became disfigured in a car accident. He turns into a shapeshifter after using an experimental cosmetics serum called “Renuyu”.
