In the wake of Warner Bros. Discovery’s earnings call in May of 2025, James Gunn has recently clarified a comment made by David Zaslav during that meeting.
Zaslav, when discussing DC, noted that the characters of Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman will be critical to the rebooted superhero universe being created by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Fans have been aware of the ongoing development for three of these four characters. Superman is releasing this July, followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in June 2026. Even Batman, with a film inspired by the run penned by Grant Morrison, was announced and is still presumed to be in development.
But Wonder Woman comes out of left field after little comment about the character and her part in the new DC world. A series set on Paradise Island, focusing on the politicking of the Amazons, was announced back in 2023, though it did not state Wonder Woman would be part of its plot, and has had no further details in the years since.

James Gunn has now clarified, in an exclusive interview with EW, that Wonder Woman is indeed playing a key part in the new DC universe. Gunn noted that this is a film separate from the series Paradise Lost (which is still slowly continuing its development) and that this new film is currently being written. They have also not yet cast anyone in the role of Wonder Woman, and Gunn’s comments allude to the idea of pairs of characters getting the focus first, first the two Kryptonians, and then Batman and Wonder Woman.
Casting announcements for this new Wonder Woman film are likely on their way, if the film is to release promptly, but we’ll have to wait and see.
