Among numerous other announcements for DC at this year’s Annecy International Film Festival, one of the most eye-catching is the reveal of an adaptation of Absolute Batman.
The comic series, which recently began in 2024 under the helmsmanship of Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, has seen considerable commercial success, with its visceral and unique reimaginings of several of Batman’s rogues' gallery drawing special attention. The comic, alongside other parallel stories seen in series like Absolute Superman, Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Martian Manhunter, is set in a universe much darker to those seen in years past, with its heroes struggling considerably more against a range of more powerful threats.
DC seeking an adaptation of Absolute Batman so quickly is a surprise, but it remains in line with their projects over the years to adapt many of their most notable comic storylines, particularly Batman storylines, into the animated medium. This new effort will involve the comic’s creative team, as writer Scott Snyder will be an executive producer and showrunner alongside Nick Dragotta as a producer.
Described as a fully CG show by Warner Bros. Animation President Sam Register, we’ll likely hear more news about the project in the coming months as the Absolute Universe continues to expand and see success at comic shops across the world.
