'Batman Knightfall: Part 1' Official Trailer Released

While attendees of the 2026 Annecy Animation Festival got to watch the whole movie, the rest of us at least got the trailer for Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall.
Knightfall is the first part of a trilogy of animated films, based on one of DC’s most beloved comic series: Batman: Knightfall, published between 1993 and 1994.

The film’s synopsis reads: “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”
And the trailer emphasizes this by showing a tired Bruce Wayne/Batman who has to face off against a whole gang of super-gangsters, with the help of Tim Drake, the third Robin.
The just one-minute-long teaser also makes it clear that Knightfall (and most probably its two sequels) is not targeted at a young audience, but will be an R-rated movie, something that DC and Warner Bros Animation have done before, starting with 2016’s The Killing Joke and later with The Long Halloween, and the adaptation of the Injustice video game. There surely won’t be a lack of action, blood, and gore.
In his introduction to the film at the Annecy Festival, Warner Bros Animation VP, Peter Girardi, left no doubt that the company is very well aware of the magnitude of the source material and that they want to get the trilogy right:
“You all know this is a very important story in the Batman mythology,” Girardi said. “It’s a story that we’ve held on to for many years because we really wanted to get it right. We needed the right team together.”
“The team” consists of Jeff Wamester as director, Jeremy Adams as screenwriter, and the South Korean Studio Mir Co., which has some experience with superhero stories, having previously worked on X-Men ‘97, My Adventures With Superman, and Young Justice: Outsiders.
Anson Mount (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) stars as Batman, Michael Mando (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) voices Bane, and Pablo Schreiber (Halo) plays the mentally unstable stand-in for Bruce Wayne, Jean-Paul Valley, aka Azrael.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall will be released later this year.
