The superhero genre is a successful and competitive sector in the film industry, and whomever has the means to tell their story holds the key to that story’s success. Given the recent merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, the intellectual property of the superhero genre is at the forefront of the matter. At the recent Brooklyn blue carpet premiere of Supergirl, the Hollywood Reporter detailed how executive producer Lars P. Winther confirmed that Paramount Skydance chairman and CEO David Ellison had “already been to Atlanta”, where Man of Tomorrow, a sequel to 2025’s Superman, is “currently in production.” Amid Paramount and WBD agreeing to move forward to the tune of a “$111 billion megadeal”, questions arose about Gunn and Safran’s future at the helm of DC Studios.

With the resurgence of the Man of Steel’s storyline, DC Studios has plans to expand on Superman’s timeline given the eventual releases of Supergirl scheduled for June 26 and Man of Tomorrow for 2027. In addition, Winther recounted how Ellison is “currently interested in the duo’s work and slate”.

According to Winther, “So far, everything’s good.” The “transition between Supergirl’s more intergalactic-set story and Superman’s Earth-bound narrative” sets the foundation for building Superman’s family within the DCU and allowing Paramount to expand on material not yet explored by DC Studios.

Each journey started on paper, and Ellison’s high regard and respect for the material will allow him and WBD to translate their journeys on the big screen. Their stories are far from complete, and so many stories have yet to be explored.
