Warner Brothers Teases An Animated 'Thundercats' Movie

Get ready to summon the power of the Eye of Thundera and defend Third Earth, because ThunderCats might be having a comeback. According to Gizmodo, Warner Bros. Animation showcased a sizzle reel featuring the Thunderans, along with  several other projects, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market. This means that a ThunderCats film may be in the works, though its current status is unknown at this time. Sizzle reels showcase a compilation of teasers for promotional purposes, but a reel does not guarantee that the teased concepts will be fleshed out.

Nostalgia can only carry a project so far; the performance of Masters of the Universe (2026) may have an influence on projects of a similar vein in the immediate future. For a film that reportedly had a budget of around $200 million, it has not performed to the desired standards. As of June 24, 2026, the film has grossed about $102.77 million worldwide, just under three weeks into its theatrical run. This performance may have a negative impact on a ThunderCats film, it's a situation to watch very closely. In the meantime, both the original 1985 version and the 2011 reboot of ThunderCats are available to stream on Disney+.
