There has been speculation about a new James Bond film for some time now. Nothing has come of that talk until recently. Back in February, Amazon MGM acquired full creative control of the franchise in a historic deal. What originally started as a rumor has finally come true, as the studio announced that Dune Director Denis Villeneuve will be directing the next James Bond film.
This comes as a bit of a shock, considering he will be tied up for the foreseeable future with the filming of the third and final Dune film, which is scheduled to begin this summer with a release date of December 16, 2026. He is more than capable of directing the next Bond film and has done great work with the Dune movies. He is the perfect visionary to direct the next film in this franchise.

Villeneuve released a statement about the upcoming project and how excited he is about directing the movie. He has been a die-hard Bond fan, and to him, it’s sacred territory. He pledged to “honor the tradition, and open the path for many new missions to come”.
Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce, as previously announced, and Tanya LaPointe will be an executive producer.
