Disney Makes Sweeping Cuts Across Its Holdings

Disney has made sweeping cuts in a move that affects employees across all their IPs. Over 1,000 employees in back-office functions such as marketing and operations have been let go, with Pixar, National Geographic and ESPN receiving the biggest lay-offs. Shockingly, this is Disney’s third round of firings this year. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro released a statement to the now former employees saying, “Over the past several months, we have looked at ways in which we can streamline our operations in various parts of the company to ensure we deliver the world-class creativity and innovation our fans value and expect from Disney. Given the fast-moving pace of our industries, this requires us to constantly assess how to foster a more agile and technologically-enabled workforce to meet tomorrow’s needs.”
It’s rumored that ESPN has suffered because of the combining of resources with NFL networks in Disney’s recent buyout. But that might not be the full story. The House of Mouse has seen its operating revenue drop by 9% in comparison to 2025. The sports division dropped by 23% and the entertainment segment sank a whopping 35%. This has led to a 15% drop in the stock price, so it’s no wonder the executive board is searching for ways to stem the flow.
