Brad Dourif as Chucky. Robert Englund as Freddy. Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. Tobin Bell as Jigsaw. Some actors are so synonymous with the characters they play, it’s impossible to see anybody else in the role. They define the characters every bit as much as the screenwriter and director. Another key example of this is Doug Bradley as the cenobite Pinhead in the Hellraiser franchise. Without his aura, malicious voice, and frightening presence, we might not have gotten as many Hellraiser films as we did.
Given that Pinhead ended up in space like a lot of other horror icons, some might see that as a good thing.
In any case, we’ve also seen a trend in the past few years of horror icons getting video game adaptations. Jason, Leatherface, Michael, and Art the Clown either have or will shortly have games based around them. Pinhead joins the group. What’s even better is that Doug Bradley has been confirmed to reprise his role for the game, providing the voice of Pinhead. To add another layer of interest, the game is reported to be an atmospheric, single player story story-driven game instead of an online experience. Titled Hellraiser: Revival, the game from Saber Interactive has you fighting a cult that worships the cenobites as you try to save your girlfriend from the pits of Hell. To top it off, the original mastermind behind the Hellraiser franchise, Clive Barker, worked on the story. The band seems to have gotten back together for this one.
Preorders are open now, with lots of goodies to collect. The game will come out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. So far there has been no release date.
