This October was supposed to be the original release for the sequel to Matt Reeves’s The Batman with Robert Pattinson. The first film grossed over three-quarters of a billion dollars worldwide and has been generally praised by fans and the industry. Due to the strikes back in 2023, the sequel has been pushed back to October 2027.
The wait has many clamoring for an update on what it is about and if there’s even a script.
That script should be coming soon. Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios with James Gunn, commented back in February that they had been getting updates from Matt Reeves, and they like what they have seen so far. An insider, according to The Wrap, stated that Reeves has been sending in pages for half a year already, and dropped the line about a final script coming this Memorial Day.
The star of the show, Robert Pattinson himself, has expressed excitement about the upcoming film and script. In a recent interview with Extra, he said he at least knows what it’s about, and he loves Reeves’s writing, so he’s excited for him to finish and get to work on the sequel.
Getting the right script is just one of the major hurdles movies have to face getting off the ground, and with fans frequently expressing superhero burnout these days, the pressure to deliver a stellar, moving script that still does the heroes justice is high.
The sequel to The Batman should release on October 1, 2027.
