One great thing about the promotion for The Mandalorian and Grogu is how much access the media now has to Jon Favreau, and by extension, Dave Filoni. Favreau and Filoni are known for keeping their secrets, and with the shakeup at Lucasfilm after Kathleen Kennedy passed the baton to Filoni, a lot is going on. After The Mandalorian Season 3, every fan expected a fourth season, and many were looking forward to seeing how the season would deal with the Grand Admiral Thrawn problem. Everyone hoped that Season 4 would set up events in Ahsoka Season 2, but plans completely changed after the movie was announced.

Now, while promoting the film in Madrid, Spain, Favreau was questioned about his plans for the Mandoverse after the movie. The Mando writer and director is close to Lucasfilm’s co-President, Dave Filoni. Favreau revealed that he and Filoni will meet up soon to discuss the future of his beloved characters, Din Djarin and Grogu. He revealed: “I’m busy promoting The Mandalorian and Grogu, he’s busy working on Ahsoka, and I’ll see him when we get together next week, back in the U.S. Then we’ll sit down and talk… I care deeply about these characters and about Star Wars. We’ll see what happens next.” It doesn’t sound like Favreau is done with these characters yet. While the scripts for Season 4 will likely need to be changed as the movie and Ahsoka Season 2 will be released before it, if Lucasfilm and Filoni agree to continue the series, Favreau doesn’t seem likely to refuse. However, in all his interviews, he does seem to be more comfortable making films, saying many times that television has its limitations, which he enjoyed not having to worry about while making the Mando movie. Could a Mando trilogy be on the cards, or will Filoni give Jon the go-ahead for The Mandalorian Season 4? Time will tell, but for now, it doesn’t seem like Lucasfilm will end the series or do away with these characters, regardless of how the movie performs. The Mandalorian and Grogu will release in theaters on May 22.
