HBO just revealed a first look at its upcoming Harry Potter series, offering fans an early glimpse into how the iconic wizarding world will be reimagined for television.

The newly released image, shared through the show’s official social media channels, depicts young Harry Potter from behind as he walks toward the Quidditch pitch. He wears a flowing red-and-gold cloak representing Gryffindor house, with his surname and player number printed prominently on the back. A crowd of fellow students moves ahead of him, and house banners for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff decorate the stadium.

This first reveal highlights the production’s attention to visual authenticity and world-building. The design of the school environment is led by production designer Mara LePere-Schloop, known for her work on Interview With the Vampire and Pachinko. Her involvement suggests a detailed, atmospheric aesthetic intended to distinguish the series while honoring the familiar look fans expect.

The show is currently filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the same studio complex where much of the original film franchise was produced. This continuity in filming location reinforces the connection to the original movies while allowing the creative team to build new sets and reinterpret classic spaces.

Casting details also reveal a mix of newcomers and established performers. Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry Potter, joined by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The adult cast includes several well-known actors, such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

The adaptation is overseen by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod. Executive producers include original series author J.K. Rowling, alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films, a key producer from the original movie series.

The series will closely follow Harry’s journey from discovering he is a wizard to leaving his non-magical upbringing behind and attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he befriends Ron and Hermione and confronts the growing threat of Lord Voldemort. The show aims at exploring the character development and the storylines of the books in greater depth than was possible in the films.

Overall, the first-look image functions as both a nostalgic callback and a statement of intent: the series seeks to faithfully recreate the magical world while giving it renewed scale, detail, and dramatic scope for a new generation of viewers.
