HBO's 'Harry Potter' Series Casts Its Draco And Lucius Malfoy And Several Other Major Roles

HBO's casting carousel for its upcoming Harry Potter series will soon come to a halt, as shooting for season one will begin later this year.

After recently announcing the cast for the show's main heroes, Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, the studio has now found its Draco Malfoy, his sinister father Lucius Malfoy, Molly Weasley, the matriarch of the Weasley clan as well as some other minor characters.

Newcomer Lox Pratt will play Harry's Hogwarts antagonist and Slytherin rival Draco, while Johnny Flynn has been cast as his father, Lucius. Flynn is a British actor and musician who has released eight albums so far and has starred in all 22 episodes of Netflix's Lovesick and played David Bowie in the movie Stardust (2020).

Meanwhile, Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Rivals) has been cast as Ron's mother, Molly, a role previously played by Julie Walters in the movie series.

Other cast members that were announced include Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, all fellow students of Harry and Draco.

Bertie Carvel, probably best known for his role in The Crown, will play Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic. Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby were announced as playing Harry Potter's aunt and uncle, Petunia and Vernon Dursley.

This group follows John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, all of whom have been previously announced.

Shooting for the first season of Harry Potter will begin later this year, with a probable release in late 2026 or early 2027. Each season will adapt one novel from the famous book series, and is said to be more faithful to the original material than the previous theatrical film series that came out between 2001 and 2011.
