'Little Women' Has Been Reimagined As A Murder Mystery In New Novel By Katie Bernet Titled 'Beth Is Dead'

There is good news for fans of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. A new Young Adult adaptation is coming to bookstores on January 6th, 2026. Beth is Dead is the debut novel from Dallas resident, and die-hard Little Women stan, Katie Bernet. Beth Is Dead sees the March sisters investigate the death of Beth, turning the beloved classic into a YA murder mystery for the first time.
Katie Bernet has given the March family a modern makeover. Influencer and author Jo March uses social media to look into Beth’s death. All the sisters seem to want to find Beth’s killer, but are they the guilty party?
Simon and Schuster will be releasing Beth Is Dead on their new imprint, Sarah Barley Books, aimed at younger readers. The other titles joining Beth Is Dead on the imprint are Love Me Tomorrow by Emiko Jean and Heiress of Nowhere by Stacey Lee. All three will be available by the beginning of 2026. Currently, the imprint is strictly YA, but it intends to acquire middle-school books in the future.
Beth Is Dead is available for pre-order in print at $19.99, $10.99 in eBook format at most major stockists (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc). It will also be released as an audiobook.
