The wait is almost over, as Hollow Knight: Silksong has been confirmed for a September 4th, 2025, release. Developer Team Cherry co-founder Ari Gibson has stated of the long wait between it and the original,” It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it.” He has also spoken a bit about the game's development, “We’ve been having fun. This whole thing is just a vehicle for our creativity anyway. It’s nice to make fun things.”
Hollow Knight was released in 2017. An action platformer taking place in a vast world of insects, the game was a huge success on many fronts. Team Cherry has planned on following it up with an expansion centered around the key character Hornet. However, the expansion would eventually evolve into Silksong, a full-fledged sequel with a larger scope. The game would spend the next 6 years under development, leading to some concerns among fans about its release. Unlike, say, Duke Nukem Forever, the game is coming out after a relatively short amount of time, and fans are sure to swarm Silksong for themselves come September.
