Games Workshop Drops Christmas Day 'Warhammer' 40K Announcement

The excellent new model of Huron Blackheart, Tyrant of Badab and Lord of the Maelstrom,

After days of waiting, the final reveal of the Warhammer Advent Calendar is a brand new model for a returning major villain.

For the past few years, Warhammer Community has hosted an advent countdown for “Grotmas,” a cheeky Christmas-themed parody holiday whose mascot is a communist-holiday Grot named Da Red Gobbo. We won’t get into unpacking all of the weird lore there, but suffice to say, the Advent event last year was incredibly successful, and culminated in the reveal of new models for the Emperor’s Children, including a gorgeous new sculpt of the serpentine hedonist Primarch, Fulgrim.

This year, while the reveal is not as expansive, it proves just as exciting. Huron Blackheart was once Lufgt Huron, Chapter Master of the Astral Claws, a Loyal Space Marine Chapter leading others in defense of the Badab Sector from enemy incursions. However, over the course of decades, relations with other areas of the Imperium of Man broke down, initially leading to a small-scale conflict while Huron still professed loyalty to the Imperium. This conflict eventually heated up, and Huron went full Traitor alongside his Chapter, standing alone as their Space Marine allies abandoned them or had already been defeated.

Huron ultimately lost what became known as the Badab War and was horrifically injured in the process. Assumed dead, he unfortunately returned decades later, leading raids against the Imperium, attacking the very region he once protected. Twisted and now loyal to Chaos, Huron believes strength is supreme above all other traits and is the only thing worthy of respect.

He hasn’t been inactive over the past several years of story developments in the Warhammer 40K universe, but this new model and teasers from Games Workshop about other Chaos raiders joining their leader suggest the future reveals in 2026 will help make his faction of Chaos prominent again. Huron and his forces will probably play a role at a later stage of the 500 Worlds campaign, previously announced as seeing the Ultramarines face the Necrons. Likely to play out similarly to Arks of Omen from a few years ago, the story will evolve, shift focus, and bring in other players, probably resulting in the Tyrant of Badab roaring onto the scene in all his raider glory.
