The Yakuza/Like A Dragon franchise has been around since 2005, with the release of the first game, Yakuza. Since then, there have been 8 installments and two spin-offs. The first two games eventually received remakes, now known as Yakuza Kiwami 1 and Yakuza Kiwami 2. Fans have been speculating and wanting a remake of the third game in the franchise, and it seems that they may have finally got their wish granted.

Some fans noticed that there was a mention of Yakuza Kiwami 3 on the Ry Ga Gotoku (RGG) website. Not much was said in the post, except that a third entry in the line of remakes was forthcoming. The post didn’t last long, and has since been deleted, but fans were able to capture screenshots.

A remake of Yakuza 3 wouldn’t be surprising, as it’s due for one. Back in April 2024, series director Masayoshi Yokoyama commented on the possibility of a remake of the third installment, “I’ll just say I think I will do Kiwami 3 at some point. I’m sure I’ll do it someday”.  If there is any official confirmation, it won’t be until the RGG summit on September 24th, with an RGG Direct right after. Many expect updates about the Like A Dragon franchise, which could now include an official announcement of Yakuza Kiwami 3.
