In a recent interview, James Gunn confirmed that Superman 2 could be on the way sooner than expected. The filmmaker is currently scheduling production, and a script is in the works.

Gunn said, “I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later,”

James Gunn’s reboot of the DC universe so far has been met with enthusiasm after David Corenswet’s version surpassed the domestic haul of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s now officially the highest grossing Superman movie ever.

There’s no info on whether Superman 2 will be a standalone or part of a wider arc that ties into other projects on the DC release schedule. Supergirl, Wonder Woman reboots are on the way, as well as the TV series Lanterns. However, the upcoming HBO MAX series, Peacemaker season 2, will have Superman tie-ins, so watch out for a Corenswet cameo.

“It’s a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker; it should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important”

There’s no official release date for Superman 2, but we’ll keep you posted.
