James Gunn Teases 'Superman' Sequel

While James Gunn’s Superman is still buzzing in theaters, the director teased a sequel on the Threads app. The next step is Peacemaker Season Two, but Gunn mentioned sequel writing in his post. The director had previously denied a sequel to Superman, so his post had viewers wondering what he could be referring to. In his initial statement, he wrote, “What I’m working on is in some way…I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily.”
One theory is that the non-sequel is the Supergirl movie since the character made a cameo in Superman. With the pair being cousins, this would make sense as a non-sequel film that would continue Clark Kent’s story. Others theorized a Batman/ Superman crossover film. Gunn clarified, “This [the sequel] is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2.” Details about this potential remain unknown, but given that Superman is the start of Gunn’s DC canon, clues may pop up in subsequent films and television shows. Gunn will also be doing press tours for Peacemaker, so more information about this non-Superman sequel may come to light during the tours.
