John Williams Discusses His Biggest Movie Scores In A New Video

In what is likely music to the ears of many fans who enjoy his work, composer John Williams discussed in a recent interview his career and the pieces he has made. Even if, somehow you don’t know his name, you will certainly know his work. Although he started in the ’60s, he soared to grand success in the ’70s, composing the scores to Fiddler on The Roof, Jaws, and Star Wars. His work continued, as he would go on to score the rest of the Star Wars and Jaws franchises, as well as E.T. The Extra-TerrestrialSchindler’s List, the Indiana Jones franchise, Close Encounters of The Third KindCatch Me If You CanWar HorseHarry PotterSuperman, Jurassic Park, and many others.

In the interview, Williams mentioned that his roots began in early childhood, inspired by his father who was a musician, and how he grew quickly writing music for his friends, and how he started his career as a pianist. He described how he came up with the music for Jaws, and how the building music built fear into the audience. 

He described how he was surprised at the success of Star Warsand bout how the love theme he made for Leia, and its unintended consequences given the twist about the character in Return of The Jedi. Another piece he talked about was his work on Harry Potter, and how he nailed the theme so well. He mentioned the fun he had with Home Alone, and how he recently watched Jurassic Park alongside director Steven Spielberg, discussing how well the movie still holds up, among others.
