The 2026 San Diego Comic Convention is starting strong, presenting the first trailer for Paramount Pictures’ Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol (2026). Johnny Depp showed up to the convention dressed as his character, Ebenezer Scrooge, to introduce the film and make a visual statement with his return to Hollywood. The trailer opens with a wide shot of the rooftops of London, a cawing corvid in the center of the screen creating a sense of foreboding off the bat. The camera cuts to a fairly busy street, where Scrooge is walking as people quickly move out of his path. The trailer contrasts shots of Scrooge being a general public menace and grumpy man with the dread of his supernatural encounters, bringing a new kind of intensity to the story. Check out the full trailer below!

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol will be released on November 13, 2026. This project is one of the first Hollywood projects that Depp has been cast in since the lawsuit with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, that concluded in 2022. The actor has had some success in international markets in the meantime, with roles including Johnny Puff in 70 episodes of the Italian cartoon Puffins and Louis XV in the 2023 French film Jeanne du Barry. Other members of the cast include Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Ti West, best known for the X trilogy, is the director, while Nathaniel Halpern wrote the screenplay adaptation of Charles Dickens’ original story.
