Krysten Ritter has two current roles that share a theme. She’s a killer. For Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection, she takes on the role of Mia Lapierre, a sommelier and serial killer. For the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, she returns to the character of Jessica Jones. She has been talking about both roles, with the latest coming from a chat with Deadline.

In talking about Dexter: Resurrection co-star Michael Hall, and how both are returning to characters they’ve played, Ritter revealed, “You play a character for this long, and Michael and I connected over this, too. Those characters that get into your body and your cells, and how slipping back into it was really easy, exciting, and fun. And it felt like everybody was thrilled that Jessica was back. Now, there’s going to be layers to her and more to play for me, and that’s exciting to revisit a character that I worked so hard on that I love so much and so do the fans. She’s just one of the coolest characters ever.”

People were speculating that Ritter was returning to the MCU when they saw her in New York. That was not the case, with her time there spent on Dexter: Resurrection. “Well, I obviously knew of the things that were happening,” she said. “When I landed in New York, everybody was like, ‘She’s here for Daredevil.’ Then it was announced that I was in Dexter, so it was a fun way to throw everybody off the track.”

In a world where secrets can easily be leaked, the announcement of Ritter’s return to the MCU was a crowd-pleasing moment. “We really wanted to preserve the Jessica Jones announcement for an event like Upfronts. Marvel wanted to find the right time to announce it so it could be celebratory and not have it leak, so it’s not something on the internet that comes and goes. We pulled it off, and that was exciting.”

Her role in Dexter: Resurrection is partly down to her performance as Jessica Jones, which Ritter revealed as down to the executive producer of Jessica Jones, Scott Reynolds. “I had been texting with Scott Reynolds about restaurants in Pasadena. I was like, ‘Oh, what are you working on?’ And he told me, and I was like, ‘Oh, do you have anything more for me?’ And he was like, ‘Actually, I might,’ but you never know what’s going to come of those conversations. And then an offer came in, and the role was so good. I read it, and it was obvious Scott wrote this with me in mind.”

Ritter reflected that getting to play both roles back to back has been a “dream come true. To have something new and glamorous and deranged and psychotic, like Mia, and then also play this really complex superhero that I love. It was like the best of both worlds. I got so lucky, and I feel very, very grateful.”

Dexter: Resurrection is currently airing one episode a week on Paramount+ with Showtime, while season two of Daredevil: Born Again will arrive on Disney+ in March 2026.
