Despite all the dumpster fires that seem to be littering American society these days, we still hold up those who have done the thing many Americans still dream about. The story of the country was one of rejecting monarchy and believing that anyone can live a great life, not just those born to aristocracy.

One of those who will go down in history is none other than George Lucas himself. A reckless, almost aimless teen in California who went on to become one of the most recognized filmmakers in history for launching one of the greatest film franchises in history. His work is well documented, but that doesn’t stop new work from seeing the light of day.

A graphic novel by Laurent Hopman, journalist, and storyboard artist and illustrator Renaud Roche, published in 2023, will be getting an English-language translation. It gives the comic treatment to one of the great American success stories.

Hopman told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted to stick with the historical accuracy angle as strictly as possible. He wants to take the facts and make an intense narrative about them. Given the struggles that Lucas went through to make Star Wars a reality, and the fallout of that with studios and the like, that won’t be too hard. He accomplishes this by bringing certain parts into the light more than others.

It is a difficult story to adapt, given that it is decades long and involves a lot of meetings. Renaud accomplished this by working with camera angles and framing to enhance the drama and tension of the situations. He also relies on taking realistic faces and highlighting the expressiveness.

The English translation hits shelves September 16.
