After All These Years, George Lucas Finally Appears At San Diego Comic-Con

An interesting ensemble of figures took to the stage on July 27th, the last day of San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Featuring Queen Latifah as panel narrator alongside Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, the biggest “star” was the appearance by George Lucas, rounding out the trio of speakers. He made his first-ever appearance onstage at SDCC to reveal many new details about his soon-to-open Lucas Museum of Narrative Art located in Los Angeles.

Samuel L. Jackson also made a guest appearance in a video promoting the wide range of artwork on display at the upcoming museum. Originally conceived when Lucas desired a space to properly display and store his 40,000 artworks acquired over a lifetime of collecting, the museum’s purpose has expanded to serve a communal purpose and as a display space for the artwork of others alongside Lucas’ collection.

Lucas described the space as “a temple to the people’s art,” featuring everything from work by Frida Kahlo to comic issues by Jack Kirby, and, as mentioned earlier, will include objects from the collections of others, such as del Toro. Notable pieces of original Star Wars art and props like speeders and landspeeders used in Star Wars films past are also planned to be displayed.

Lucas additionally emphasized his love for family as the reason he created the museum, and others attested to the idea that, as myths and stories shape who people are, so too does art influence what they become. Del Toro took a moment to harshly criticize propaganda as a divisive force, separate from the myth he and others, like Lucas, hope to showcase at the new museum.
