Lucasfilm Publishing Reveals New Releases At San Diego Comic-Con

While the panels focused on Star Wars books and comics initially seemed to promise a lot of new material, the actual results have been a little lacklustre. However, what new things were revealed should greatly interest fans.
On the comic side, Mad Cave took centre stage, with their pre-existing announcements from earlier this year now joined by others. The first is another Mandalorian and Grogu-focused comic written by Delilah S. Dawson entitled Nightmare on Nevarro, while the other is Star Wars: A New Hope - Triple Take, a retelling of A New Hope from the perspectives of Leia, Luke and Han, rendered in three different art styles. Other news includes a new comic series starting next year entitled Star Wars: X-Wing Academy, focusing on four students learning how to be pilots within the New Republic, and the subtle reveal that previously announced graphic novels have gained the subtitle Volume 1, suggesting that each will function similar to the overarching banner of Hyperspace Storiesat Dark Horse, as a title to carry forward other storytelling in the future.
The book panels, meanwhile, saw scant new reveals, though two stand out. The first is a new look-back book entitled Star Wars: A Celebration, set to celebrate the franchise’s big 50th anniversary, while the second was much bigger. Star Wars: Twin Crossroads will see Luke and Leia on a special mission to the planet Coruscant before the Battle of Jakku, but also promises to tackle Leia’s Jedi training under Luke’s guidance.

The author, Beth Revis, revealed that she is excited to reveal the origins of Leia’s kyber crystal and that her work will reference many areas of the Star Wars canon, from Andor to the Sequel Trilogy. The Sequel Trilogy in particular makes sense, as Revis states her work will closely align to content that appears in Star Wars: Legacy, the next Star Wars book to release, focused on Leia helping to teach Rey by drawing on the limited time she spent learning from Luke.
If one is a fan of all-ages comics, the SDCC panels had a lot for you, while fans of novels only really got one new reveal. While this reveal is substantial and exciting, helping to fill in a major gap in canon storytelling, the void of solid teases of the future leaves us gravely concerned for Star Wars publishing. Next year is a major, significant, milestone, and all we have so far are a handful of books, and no teases for what the future holds. There is not even news of any tie-in material for the two upcoming Star Wars video games, an extreme oddity we can only hope suggests a release in 2027 with a delay similar to Low Red Moon. All we can do now is wait, and hope that NYCC 2026 brings more announcements or teases for the future.
