The head of the primo Nazi-killing-experience video studio, MachineGames, recently revealed one of his greatest wishes: to keep on killing fictional Nazis, but now, back in the Wolfenstein universe.

Jerk Gustafsson recently mentioned this desire to return to the Wolfenstein franchise at the end of a video dedicated to the history of MachineGames, noting that they always viewed the story they started to tell in Wolfenstein: New Order as a trilogy. The New Colossus followed up that first well-received title, but the series has been in limbo since the release of 2019’s Youngblood, a spin-off set 20 years later that did not get as strong a critical or fan reception.

MachineGames didn’t stop game development after Youngblood, of course, and most recently released the well-received Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, being one of the first Xbox studios to see their game released on the PlayStation.

To be clear, Gustafsson stated this was his wish, and is not something in active development at this time. With Microsoft repeatedly slashing jobs and cancelling projects across its gaming division, a cautious optimism should be taken due to one key factor: Wolfenstein does appear to be a hot commodity for the megacorporation, as there is an apparent adaptation of the franchise in the works.

Regardless of whether this desire blossoms into a new Wolfenstein project, we look forward to hearing just what MachineGames is working on next.
