Dave Filoni has a fan in Mark Hamill. Hamill endorsed Filoni’s new role as Lucasfilm co-President in a new interview, in where he shared how glad he is that George Lucas’s former protégé now gets to lead the franchise into the future. Hamill said he “can’t think of better hands” than Filoni’s for Lucasfilm to be in. Filoni will share the position withLynwnn Brennan, who is another longtime member of Lucasfilm. Kathleen Kennedy mentored Filoni and Brennan throughout her time as President to prepare them both to take over her position when she left.
The legendary Luke Skywalker actor believes Filoni understands the franchise better than anyone thanks to his close relationship with George Lucas, when the duo worked together on The Clone Wars. He said, “George was a mentor to Dave, so he knows George’s sensibility.” Hamill also worked with Filoni on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. He appeared as a de-aged Luke Skywalker in both episodes, and Filoni wrote and directed Hamill’s episode in The Book of Boba Fett. With Filoni now the head of Lucasfilm, fans must be wondering if there’s a possibility that Luke could be brought back in some capacity, either in an animated series that covers his life during the original trilogy, or a series set after the events of Return of the Jedi. All possibilities are on the table, since Filoni is a huge fan of the original films, and Hamill seems quite appreciative of his understanding of the franchise.
