When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, Kathleen Kennedy became president of the company. Now, after overseeing many projects within the Star Wars galaxy and even a few beyond, she is stepping down from the role. Now stepping into the role of president is Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, alongside General Manager of Lucasfilm Business Lynwen Brennan as co-president.

Kennedy will be moving back to a more active production role away from the galaxy far, far away. She will continue her role as producer for both Star Wars projects she is currently part of. Both The Mandalorian and Grogu and Starfighter will end the years she has worked for Lucasfilm, which started with getting the sequel trilogy off to its grand start with The Force Awakens.

“When George Lucas asked me to take over Lucasfilm upon his retirement, I couldn’t have imagined what lay ahead,” Kennedy said in her farewell statement. “It has been a true privilege to spend more than a decade working alongside the extraordinary talent at Lucasfilm. Their creativity and dedication have been an inspiration, and I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together. I’m excited to continue developing films and television with both longtime collaborators and fresh voices who represent the future of storytelling.”

Filoni, who joined Lucasfilm in 2005 to establish the animation studio that would bring The Clone Wars to the world, worked closely with Lucas to understand the vision its creator held for the franchise. Just as he launched the animated TV side of Lucasfilm, he would later do the same with the live-action series alongside Jon Favreau with The Mandalorian.

“My love of storytelling was shaped by the films of Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas,” Filoni said in his statement. “I never dreamed I would be privileged to learn the craft of filmmaking from both of them. From Rey to Grogu, Kathy has overseen the greatest expansion in Star Wars storytelling onscreen that we have ever seen. I am incredibly grateful to Kathy, George, Bob Iger, and Alan Bergman for their trust and the opportunity to lead Lucasfilm in this new role, doing a job I truly love. May the Force be with you.”

Brennan started at Lucasfilm at ILM in 1999, rising through its ranks to become its leader in 2009. Appointed to general manager of Lucasfilm in 2015, she became president and general manager of Lucasfilm Business in 2024. She has proven to be a leader with a clear strategic vision, one who is committed to innovation, which has brought many advancements to the technology at Lucasfilm.

“Lucasfilm has played such a meaningful part in my life,” Brennan said in her statement. “It’s a community of inspiring storytellers with a rebel spirit like no other, and I am honored to join Dave Filoni in leading us forward. I have been so fortunate to learn from George Lucas, Kathy Kennedy, and Alan Bergman, and have unwavering faith in Dave’s creative vision for the next chapter in this storied studio’s legacy.”
