Right before the Marvel Television panels at this weekend's New York Comic Con, Brad Winderbaum — head of Marvel TV and animation — sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the upcoming shows Wonder Man and the second seasons of both Daredevil: Born Again and X-Men ‘97.

Welcome To The Metaverse

Winderbaum describes Wonder Man, whose premiere has been pushed from December to January 2026 (”We don't want it to get swallowed up by people watching Home Alone and Die Hard and Elf”), as a meta story that takes place in the MCU.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams, an actor who wants to be cast in a reboot of the TV show Wonder Man, which he watched as a kid, and who is torn between living his dream and having to make money for a living. On his journey, he meets Trevor Slattery (played by Ben Kingsley), and although the two men are vastly different, they share a love for acting.

According to Winderbaum, Wonder Man is a very intimate and earnest show, and although the concept of having to deal with the film business may evoke comparisons with Apple’s The Studio, the Marvel executive ensures that the show will be quite different.

Wonder Man is designed as a limited series, but if fans really dig it, there is potential for a second season.

Speaking of second seasons, the continuation of Daredevil: Born Again will see the return of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones into the current MCU, but according to Winderbaum, fans should not hold their breath for the comeback of the other two members of Marvel’s Defenders, Luke Cage and Danny Rand.

He did confirm, however, that Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson will be in season two, after the actor’s recent statement, which cast doubt on whether Matt Murdock’s former associate would still be alive. Winderbaum’s answer still leaves room for interpretation if Foggy somehow survived being shot at the beginning of season one or if he will just appear in flashbacks.

The upcoming seaon will have Wilson Fisk, who has taken over Ney York in any form possible having to face a new adversery, aside from the man wearing the devil’s costume: Matthew Lillard will play Mr. Charles, an influencial figure on the international stage and according to Winderbaum Fisk will have to deal ”with Mr. Charles up here and Daredevil down here for different reasons. So he's getting squeezed a little bit.

He also confirmed that the team working on Daredevil is in constant communication with the crew of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, although both projects show a different side of New York.

Same Same But Different

Regarding season two of X-Men ‘97, Winderbaum explained that fans should not worry about the change of the showrunner, as the writers, directors, producers, cast, and artists are still very much the same, and the second season will build upon and continue what has been established in season one.

And while Apocalypse will have a big role in the upcoming episodes, that does not mean that many of the main characters are going to die, although some of the characters want to do what's right at any cost.”

Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again, and X-Men ‘97 will begin streaming on Disney+ in 2026.
