Amazon has announced that Matthew Rhys will be joining the voice cast of Invincible for its fourth season. That season is expected to arrive on Prime Video in 2026, with Amazon also announcing that a fifth season of the animated series will be forthcoming.

There is speculation that Rhys could be voicing Thragg, as during the season three finale, Robert Kirkman teased the original comic series villain would be coming to the animated series. “It would certainly be weird if [Thragg] didn’t show up in the show. I mean, I don’t know. It’s so tough. Here’s what I’ll say: He’s been cast and he’s amazing.”

As for Amazon renewing Invincible for a season five before the fourth has even aired, that should be no surprise. The third season, noted by Amazon as the most-watched animation season of all time. This isn’t the first time Amazon has renewed the series so far in advance, as the third season was announced shortly after the series premiered. Season four was announced months before season three aired.

Invincible has also made the rounds in awards ceremonies, with the series being a nominee at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, the 2022 Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, and the Online Film & Television Association at both 2021 and 2024 events. Leading star Steven Yeun landed a nomination at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance, with Sterling K. Brown being a nominee at the 2024 event.
