One of the most exciting announcements of The Game Awards in December was the reveal of a new Star Wars racing game, named Star Wars: Galactic Racer. It immediately triggered nostalgia among gamers and Star Wars fans alike, remembering the 1999 game Star Wars: Episode I Racer.

Max Webster, Fuse Games CEO, sat down with GamesRadar+ to talk about their work on the upcoming racer that has everyone excited. He claims that racing games in the HD era are lacking that intense, arcade, high-speed characteristic that he feels they are uniquely qualified to deliver.

The game will reportedly have progression systems and a deep customization toolset across a bevvy of vehicles that fans will recognize and experience for the first time. That includes Star Wars fans’ favorite racing vehicle, the Podracer, because as Webster stated in his interview, it just wouldn’t be a Star Wars racing game without them. However, they wanted to expand that roster and give players a range of vehicles to experience the thrill of racing.

Tracks will play out across numerous planets that fans will recognize from across the Star Wars universe through games and movies. Taking place in the Outer Rim, a notoriously dangerous segment of the galaxy, it plays into the game’s customization element. Players will make use of their winnings to customize their racers both aesthetically and mechanically to make your racer the fastest in the galaxy. What better way to experience that than in first-person? Camera angles will be selectable by players, from the third-person to first-person, experiencing the intensity of the speed in a cinematic way.

The game is set to launch at some point this year and will feature both single-player and multiplayer elements.
