The Game Awards 2025 were a fruitful year for Star Wars fans. Not one, but two trailers premiered, and maybe to the surprise of some, one of the featured games appears close to release!

Star Wars: Galactic Racer, set to release in 2026, is a racing game set in the Star Wars galaxy after the reign of the Empire during the time of the New Republic. The game’s story sees players taking control of a racer called Shade, who has to rise up the ranks of the newly formed Galactic League, a criminal-affiliated, unsanctioned league for racers pursuing the “good ol’ days” prior to the Empire’s apparent crackdown on the sport. Shade’s main rival is someone named Kestar, and the game’s trailer also ends on the familiar, though aged, face of Sebulba! Whether the two figures are connected or merely represent nefarious racers for the player character to overcome is unclear.

Players will be able to make use of vehicles in three classes: landspeeders, speederbikes, and a new kind of vehicle, the skim speeder. Each vehicle players race in will have their own stats and upgrade possibilities, with the skim speeder noted as capable of great momentum and easily snapping around tight turns.

The races will take place on a range of tracks, with three locations currently revealed to be Galactic Racer, Jakku, Ando Prime, and a new world created for the game, Sentinel One. We can see the Graveyard of Giants will be a race course on Jakku, and the cold world of Ando Prime as well, while Sentinel One is described as “a toxic wasteland that’s been plundered for minerals with bright yellow rivers of acid that criss-cross the dark rocky terrain”. It is also a Skakoan world that held or still holds a listening post, but its toxic wasteland is specifically of interest for how this creates unique obstacles racers will need to avoid. There will also be branching pathways for players to take on the various tracks.

The array of information available to read from different sources about Galactic Racer would suggest the game developers are confident in their 2026 year window. For now, tune up your engines, and get ready to join the race whenever we hear more about when the starting line will be set up.
