After months, perhaps even verging on years, of rumors, the next chapter in the Total War franchise has been confirmed: Warhammer 40K.
Revealed the evening of The Game Awards 2025, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will set players in the Era Indomitus (the modern period of the Warhammer sci-fi universe) and let them play as four possible factions, Space Marines, Orks, Astra Militarum, or Aeldari. Each group offers its own playstyle and features multiple units as seen in the tabletop game. Players will also be able to customize their forces, though the game’s trailer only focused on the customizability of the Space Marines.
Conflict, meanwhile, has a familiar Total War look from the gameplay footage in the trailer, though the nature of travel and deployment between planets, to say nothing of what role planets, moons, or celestial bodies will play in the game, might provide some twists on the familiar formula.
The game is in development for PCs but also consoles, a franchise first for Total War, and currently has no release date. However, more news is sure to drop in time, especially after the cycle of news ramps up for Dawn of War IV, which recently had its own surprise reveals. We’ll be sure to keep our auspex tuned to keep track of any more developments with this exciting new chapter for the dual long-running franchises.
