More Forecasts For 'The Mandalorian And Grogu' Box Office

As the premiere of the first Star Wars film in more than six years draws nearer, more box office predictions for The Mandalorian and Grogu emerge.
The most recent one sees the first big-screen adventure of Din Djarin and his little green associate open with $80 million-plus for the four-day Memorial Day weekend in the US.
If true, this would make it the lowest opening for a Disney-era Star Wars movie, as 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story earned $103 million over the same four days. Solo grossed $392.9 million globally but struggled due to its huge production budget from extensive reshoots—an issue The Mandalorian and Grogu reportedly avoided, as its budget is around $165 million (excluding marketing).
A 4-day gross of around $80 million would put the film in a similar spot as last year’s Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which opened to $79 million before earning $197 million domestically and $598 million worldwide at the end of its run.

No matter if The Mandalorian and Grogu’s opening weekend will end up in the $80 million ballpark or if it will be able to cross the $100 million threshold, this year’s Memorial Day weekend will most certainly pale in comparison to last year's, when the live-action Lilo & Stitch and The Final Reconing together played a huge part of the $330 million box-office haul. This year, the only major movies to be released together with The Mandalorian and Grogu are Andre Ovredal’s Passenger and the Boots Riley comedy I Love Boosters.
There are a couple of reasons why the next Star Wars movie is going to be a hit and why it wont be and of course, it is still too early to make serious predictions, as Disney’s and Lucasfilm’s marketing machine has only recently kicked into high gears with promotions and TV spots as well as with the first 19 minutes of the film to be shown at IMAX theatres around the world on May 4, the unoffical Star Wars day.
