Interesting news out of Camp Crystal Lake.

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Horror Inc.'s Robbie Barsamian confirmed that not only is a new Friday the 13th game in the works, but a prequel film as well. Friday the 13th did have a game previously, but mixed reviews and lack of consistent interest led to it being shuttered in December 2024. Now, much like his film counterpart, video game Jason is back again. So far, we don’t have any real details about the game other than it being in development and that it seems to be a sequel to the first game. What that means is anyone’s guess, but it’s sure to be a bloody affair. Hopefully, the sequel irons out a few kinks that dragged the original down.

The announcement of a prequel film is highly intriguing. We haven’t gotten a Friday film since 2009’s critically panned remake of the second film. There hasn’t been much clamor for another film in the series, and prequel films are always a tricky prospect. If you turn on the lights in the room, the scary, shadowy figure becomes just a hat and jacket on a coat rack. We’ve seen several attempts to explain characters like Michael, Jason, Freddy, Hannibal Lecter, etc in various films, and the answers are always disappointing. However, far be it from me to give the film a 1/10 before anything about it is announced, so we’ll have to wait and see what the filmmakers come up with. Once again, it’s sure to provide plenty of blood and guts.

Unless they decide to neuter the film for a PG-13 rating. That’s also something that always works out.
