New Major Update to 'Helldivers 2' Adds New Illuminate Enemies And Frantic In-Game Storyline

Super Earth is in mortal danger, and it is up to the Helldivers to save the day!
Over the past several months since their initial return, the Illuminate vanguard force active in the Milky Way Galaxy has been causing chaos and destruction. Using a singular generated by Super Earth some time ago to destroy a colony of the insectoid Terminids, the Illuminate initially pushed the Meridian Singularity right to the doorstep of Super Earth before it was pushed back by the concerted efforts of Managed Democracy. However, the planets destroyed in the anomaly’s wake appear to have simply been bonus objectives for their true mission!
The Singularity has proven to be a wormhole, with the Illuminate’s Great Host deploying from the anomaly on a path straight for Super Earth. With this surge in Illuminate forces comes a host of new enemies for Helldivers to face. There is the horrific mass of fused bodies called the Fleshmob that is difficult to take down and constantly charges the target of its aggression, then the Crescent Overseer which is a normal Overseer armed with a mortar cannon to hit Helldivers in cover, and lastly, the Stingray, also called the Interloper, an aircraft that will strafe Helldiver positions repeatedly until destroyed. There are rumors of other enemies, particularly other ships, harassing the front line, but for now, the new additions join the existing arsenal of the insidious Squids in their push toward Super Earth.

This in-game event has been joined by extensive changes to weapons, from a range of core weapon tweaks to the introduction of customization for individual weapons through a new leveling system. Currently only available on most primary weapons, the system is incredibly robust, with weapons needing to be leveled up, and stat-adjusting options available for purchase at different levels of each weapon’s level-up track.
The frantic pace of this new event, and its uncertain conclusion, is sure to keep players new and old engaged over the coming weeks. But for now, launch those hellpods Helldivers, and weaken the oncoming rush of Illuminate as much as possible before they make planetfall on Super Earth!
