The Turtles return for a new short film inspired by Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Directed by Kent Seki, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 – Lost In New Jersey sees a toy company exploiting the Turtles’ newfound fame. Following clues to New Jersey, a shocking discovery is made. The recently released trailer for the short shows how this journey gets going, with a fun bit of poking at ChatGPT and a commercial for the toys that is distinctly 90s.
Speaking with Variety before this trailer was released, Seki revealed a bit about how this short came to be. “We wanted to honour the Ninja Turtles’ history while asking what would happen if we put them somewhere completely unfamiliar. New Jersey became the perfect backdrop because it’s so close to New York, yet has its own energy and quirks that challenge the Turtles in new ways. The Home Alone 2 inspirations come from the fact that Seki loved both growing up. As such, “this project became a way to smash those influences together. The Turtles are constantly in survival mode – but here, survival means figuring out the Jersey Turnpike.”

Despite being a short film, there’s the possibility for more stories like Chrome Alone 2 that push the Ninja Turtles away from New York. As Seki said, “I think audiences are hungry for new ways to experience these characters. We’ll always love seeing them in New York, but throwing them somewhere unexpected opens the door to new humour, new stakes, and new visual possibilities. If people connect with this one, I’d love to keep exploring that.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 – Lost In New Jersey will appear in theatres on December 19, playing in front of showings for The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants. The trailer for Chrome Alone 2 can be found below.
