Nintendo Switch 2 Launches But Not Without Unexpected Issues

It is launch day for the Nintendo Switch 2, but already there are some hiccups for some customers, and as players explore the launch titles on offer.
For some buyers, one GameStop on Staten Island has earned their ire as the store’s checkout practices have ruined their new Switch 2s. Several buyers are reporting on Reddit and social media that the store, in stapling receipts to the game console’s boxes, easily punched through the cardboard barrier and damaged the console’s screen.
This was particularly painful for many, given they were there as part of a midnight release, and they were eager to get their hands on the new console. At present, neither GameStop nor Nintendo has responded for comment on the situation, and it will be interesting to see the reaction to the screwup by the Staten Island store itself.

Elsewhere, in software news, those who have been researching the games for the Switch 2 have learned of another infuriating detail to the console’s most curious launch title. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, meant to guide players through the various new technologies and functions of their console, has been criticized for being a paid game, when in reality it is more like a tech demo or fun interactive experience linked to owning the console.
Another wrinkle has been thrown in as thanks to an investigation by Nintendo Soup, now reported on by Eurogamer, it has been made more clear that some of the minigames in the collection require the expensive peripherals, being sold separately from the console, or the best hardware available. A USB camera, the GL/GR buttons on the Switch 2 Pro Controller or Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip, and a 4K TV are required for at least one minigame apiece, meaning that while players can access every area of the game, they cannot fully complete the total experience.
Hopefully, the launch week of the Switch 2 proceeds better than its first 24 hours.
